Appartamenti Santa Croce

The Santa Croce Apartments are inside a farmhouse that has been owned by our family since last century. Before the renovation ordered by our father in 2005, the farmhouse was the centre of family and agricultural life for our farmer, who lived here and cultivated the olive trees, raised cows, pigs, chickens and rabbits, cultivated the vegetable garden and baked bread in the wood-fired oven.

Life in the country was characterised by solidarity and sharing, with family and neighbours helping each other with farm work. Our family lived in Terni, which is 17 km from the farmhouse, but my father often came to Ferentillo, followed the work in the fields, got information and gave advice and directions. We daughters would stay hours petting the newborn rabbits, watching the pigs grunting and rolling in the mud, picking bunches of tender daisies to take to mum. When we grew up, we also joined the farmer's family in harvesting the precious olives. It was a tiring but rewarding and fun experience that allowed you to spend all day in the open air with real people with hearts as good and generous as the olive trees they cultivated.

Over the years, the farmhouse was left by the farmer's family for a more comfortable house in the village of Ferentillo. Santa Croce risked first abandonment and then certain ruin, while the olive grove continued to be lovingly cultivated and cared for.

So in 2005 my father decided to give new life to this place, too beautiful to let it crumble and be swallowed up by wild nature. A skilful renovation led to the current conformation with seven flats, all with independent entrances, one of which I occupy. The others we decided to rent out to those who need a break and want to immerse themselves in nature, discover the beauty of Umbria and live an authentic experience of relaxation and tranquillity.
