The B&b "The farm of Giustina" of Montecarlo (Lucca) is the ideal solution if you want to spend a holiday in Tuscany in the countryside, but with all the comforts of the city. Located in the middle of northern part of Tuscany, at a distance of about 50 km. from the airports of Pisa and Florence and from the coast of the sea, the B&b is in a recently renovated house, which is able to offer the same comfort of the most modern houses in the city, and at the same time it is surrounded by a garden with roses, hydrangeas and camellias, as well as numerous olive trees and vines of a real "farm".

In the house live the two owners, who share with the guests the household appliances (washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, etc..), the kitchen, the bookcase with guidebooks and maps of places to visit, the garden, the wide open spaces also provided with some outdoor play equipment for children and the shady grove with tables and chairs. If they wish, the guests can also take part in some simple agricultural activities, such as the grapes or olives harvest.

During their stay, the guests can enjoy in the morning a rich continental breakfast, prepared by Paola with local produce and much appreciated in all the reviews of the B&b. The breakfast is served in the colder seasons in the large dining room of the house and in the summer almost always outdoors very close to the trees and vines of the surrounding countryside.

Starting from the house, you can go for walks in the surrounding area in the middle of the typical landscape of the Tuscan hills and you quickly reach the village of Montecarlo, very characteristic for its urban plan of medieval period and for the Medici fortress, but also full of many good restaurants and pizzerias. The large number of farms in the area produce a great wine, for which the DOC has been recognized, and an extra virgin olive oil, considered one of the top quality oils of Tuscany; the guided tours to wine cellars and “frantoi” (oil-mills) are very appreciated by tourists and allow them to understand the production process of the wine and of the olive oil.

Although the house is right in the middle of the countryside, in an area protected for the environmental beauty of its landscape, it is not too far from the motorway (4 km.) or the train station (1 km.), which can be easily reached on foot. Montecarlo is a quite little village, surrounded by nature, yet all the main comforts are close at hand because it is placed in an ideal position, which makes it the perfect starting point for trips to visit the Northern part of Tuscany. No matter your age or taste, you will enjoy a holiday here, whether you are looking for culture, museums and ancient towns, such as Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, Vinci, S. Gimignano, Volterra, or you like to choose, between the restaurants of Tuscany, famous for the quality of their service, those who are best suited to your tastes. This place is also ideal for children: Collodi, Pinocchio’s home town, is just 8 km away, a zoo in Pistoia is 25 km. far, public swimming pools are also rather near and it is half an hour drive to Viareggio, the renown seaside resort along the Versilian coastline. You may decide to go for relaxing walks in the woods around Montecarlo, on the nearby Pizzorne plateau (around 1000 metres above sea level), in the Garfagnana area or maybe you prefer going out at night to one of the many pubs and discos in Viareggio, which is very busy and lively, especially in summer. On the other hand, if you want to take care of your health, you might choose to go to a spa in Montecatini or in Monsummano Terme, where you can also find the famous Giusti Grotto, just 12 km away.

What is unique about staying at "The farm of Giustina" is the family hospitality; if you like it, you will be surrounded by the care and attention of the hosts, who will have you as their unique guests and were in the past high school teachers. Also the price is interesting, just kept low, because the size of the structure is small and there is no need for extra staff.

Since 1932, for more than 60 years, Giustina, the present owner’s grandmother, lived in this place where she was appreciated for her kindness, good humour and cheerfulness and known to be a hard-working and friendly hostess, always ready to welcome guests and offer to them the delicious food she cooked. After her husband’s death, she became the only owner of the farm until the year 2000, when she died at the age of 96. Her renowned hospitality has inspired the present owners who have decided to carry on the old family tradition.
La colazione di IL PODERE DI GIUSTINA
Breakfast is one of the strengths of our B & B. Guests can choose their favorite type of coffee or tea, enjoy a choice of organic muesli and / or bread, butter, various types of jam or honey, cakes or biscuits. All products are local and almost always organic. Milk and yogurt are always available. Special breakfasts for celiacs or other special needs are possible.

The breakfast is served in the colder seasons in the dining room of the house and in the summer (not only) almost always outdoors very close to the olive trees and vines of the surrounding countryside.

My name is Marco and I was a teacher of Italian, Latin and history in high schools for a long time. I always really enjoyed getting to know other countries and cultures in depth, without limiting myself to visits of a merely touristic and episodic nature. After retirement, I chose to live in the countryside, renovating what had been my grandparents' house. Now I like to take care of my 400 olive trees, but above all of my guests, who have been numerous in recent years and with whom I have always maintained excellent relations. My wife Paola, a former math teacher, loves cooking and prepares excellent homemade bread every day, as well as cakes and jams.

Area countryside

The bed and breakfast, surrounded by olive trees and vines, is part of an area that is becoming more and more interesting for tourists: there are numerous and excellent restaurants and pizzerias, whose clients often come from all the surrounding cities; the farms in the area produce an excellent wine, for which the D. O. C. has been recognized, and an extra-virgin olive oil, considered one of the best in Tuscany; it is possible to organize tours in the cellars, access cooking schools, organize guided tours of wineries and oil mills, which allow to understand the production process of wine and olive oil. The village of Montecarlo, built entirely between 1333 and 1335, preserves its medieval structure, its walls, an 18th-century theater and a visitable fortress, from which you can enjoy excellent views of the Valdinievole and the Lucca area. It is possible to go for walks in the countryside or organize excursions by bike. Numerous events are organized every year, from the Wine Festival to concerts and shows in the theater or outdoors.
Montecarlo is also an ideal starting point for visiting northern Tuscany, being halfway between Florence and Pisa. The holidays that you can spend here will suit all tastes and all ages! You can enjoy cultural holidays, visiting museums and historic cities, such as Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, Vinci, S. Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Barga, Pietrasanta, or gastronomic, choosing between the trattorias and the Tuscan restaurants, famous for the quality of their service, those that are best suited to your tastes. But the place is also suitable for children: just 8 km. away there is Collodi, the home town of Pinocchio; the Pistoia zoo is 25 km. far; public swimming pools are also rather near and it is only half an hour drive to the renowned seaside resort of Viareggio and the Versilia coast. The Cinque Terre and the rocky coast south of Livorno can also be reached. You can relax by taking long walks on the nearby plateau of Pizzorne (about 1000 meters high) or between the mountains of Garfagnana or having fun at night in the numerous pubs and discos of nearby Valdinievole or Viareggio. If instead you want to take care of your health, 12 km. around there are renowned spa resorts, such as Montecatini and Monsummano Terme, with the famous Grotta Giusti and the outdoor thermal pool, where you can immerse yourself in every season of the year.

Enjoying a comfortable and intimate bed and breakfast is the best way to discover Italy
(find here our commercial video in Italian). Here you can find pure bed and breakfasts and other kinds of accommodation, like boarding houses, inns, country houses, tourist rentals, family run hotels. This is because in Italy B&Bs are subject to specific legal and economic restrictions, but there are also other kinds of family managed accommodation that cannot legally use the "B&B" name. In our listing you will find the exact appellation for each property, and if you click it you will find all its specific features.
