Gaiole in Chianti is a small village in the province of Siena - in the Chianti Classico area - of about 2, 300 inhabitants, where everyone knows each other. It is a somewhat hidden community, just beyond the tourist circuits. Cited by Forbes as "the most idyllic place to live", Chianti has everything to please in terms of mountains, vineyards, wineries and hiking. There are also opportunities for horse riding, hiking and tennis, and the food is delicious. The countryside is beautiful - vineyards, olive groves and wooden hills - and a peaceful rural lifestyle reigns here. Situated between Florence and Siena, the area is home to several renowned vineyards, such as Castello di Brolio and Castello di Ama, flanked by small, lesser-known vineyards whose products are equally worthy of tasting.
In the village square there are restaurants, cafes, a pizzeria, a pharmacy, two vending machines, a fruit and vegetable shop, some clothing shops and a mini supermarket (COOP), hairdressers, an excellent butcher, takeaway pizza.
Over the years Gaiole has become the cycling capital, where L'Eroica takes place every year on the first weekend of October: there is also a bike rental shop and a shop selling cycling sports products.
