In the heart of the recently restored ancient village of Oreno, situated between the two main squares of the town, stands the Foresteria Lombarda Borromeo. This establishment has been created from a wing of the historic dairy court ("Curt del lacè"), surrounded by countryside preserved in its original state by the nearby Parco della Cavallera, located at the gates of Monza and Milan.
Just a few meters away from the Foresteria Lombarda Borromeo is the 18th-century Villa Gallarati Scotti, nestled within a beautiful park that also encompasses the 17th-century Villa Borromeo and the adjoining Casino di Caccia, which is set in a picturesque "Corte Rustica" from the 1400s. It is within this courtyard that one can find the famous Stanza degli affreschi, the frescoes of which have inspired the colors and upholstery of every room in the guesthouse.
These sites offer a glimpse into the past, evoking the historical and artistic imagination of the era of the Zavattari (known for the Chapel of Queen Theodolinda in the Monza Cathedral) and the time when Gian Giacomo Caprotti, known as il Salaino, mysteriously made his way from Oreno to Milan to become one of Leonardo's favored students in the 15th century.
