The hilly area above Piacenza abounds in churches, including many small Romanesque jewels, castles like Gropparello, Castelnuovo Fogliani, Castell’Arquato and Vigoleno and the enchanting medieval hill town of Grazzano Visconti with its winding streets immersed in lush vegetation and lined with numerous craft shops.

Be sure to also see: the Gropparello Fairy-Tale Park, instructive and lots of fun for children and the Adventure Academy survival school, public swimming pools in Gropparello, Lugagnano Val d’Arda and Carpaneto Piacentino, not to mention all sorts of local country fairs and festivals, while Veleia Romana, one of the most important archeological zones in all of Northern Italy.

Plus there are a number of riding stables near the Bed & Breakfast.

A land rich in food specialties
Gourmets and people who are fond of good food will find that there is a lot to discover touring through the small towns and hilly countryside near Piacenza.

As a matter of fact, these hills boast fully 18 varieties of D. O. C. wines, including such outstanding delights as: Gutturnio, Ortrugo and Bonarda.

Trying them with the local D. O. P. dressed pork products and cheeses as you tour the local archeological sites and enjoy country outings is one of the best ways to discover the pleasures of this particular region.

Among the humble traditional dishes we would like to recommend are: pisarei e fasö, little gnocchi made from bread topped with an abundant bean sauce; picula ad caval, stewed ground horse meat; roast coppa; and the famous chisolino (a bread specialty similar to focaccia) to be enjoyed with the excellent Piacenza coppa.
