Ravenna is a precious treasure chest of art, history and culture that was the capital of
the Western Roman Empire three times. In its basilicas and baptisteries there is the
richest heritage of mosaics of humanity dating back to the fifth and sixth centuries,
making it a real mosaic capital with 8 monuments included in the World Heritage List by
UNESCO. The polychrome Byzantine mosaics, present in the Domus dei Tappeti di
Pietra, those in the crypt of San Francesco, or the most famous of the Basilicas of
Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and in Classe, the starry sky in Sant'Apollinare, which has always
inspired artists and writers, not to mention the baptisms of Christ and the decorative
cycle at San Vitale are an unmissable destination for anyone wishing to take a journey
through the history of Ravenna.

For contemporary art, you can visit the MAR art museum.
